It might sound odd to combine travel with cricket statistics but both have been my hobbies for as long as I can remember and I have spent twenty five years working in an office booking firstly holidays in travel agencies before moving onto the corporate side and am currently employed with Carlson Wagonlit Travel working in an implant for RWE Npower part of which, npower, is the sponsor of English cricket...
Holidays were always a big event and my parents always ensured that we had a decent summer holiday, my father being in the R.A.F and my mother a teacher. We went to France many times, Greece ( where I was bitten by a jellyfish but just avoided a cockroach in a tent at the age of six) and we spent three years in Germany.
I have often thought of myself as a bit of a paradox. At Blundell's I had the choice of taking German or Geography, took the former and ended up in a travel agency. Similarly, I was hopeless at anything more than the most elementary Maths and yet fell in love with figures and statistics. I am pleased to say that I continue still with German and am grateful to a Swiss friend, Sarah, whom I met in Zermatt and with whom I have the slightly odd
arrangement of my writing in German and Sarah in English. Okay, we speak in English because Sarah's English is fluent but I am the first port of call in the office when a basic French or German hotel doesn't speak English. with Sarah
