ANDREW ROBERTS - Brief Profile
A former travel agent who still manages to travel extensively around various parts of the globe including Europe, Asia, Middle East and Australia, Andrew Roberts has also been following cricket avidly since 1975.
For almost thirteen years, he was privileged to assist Bill Frindall as scorer, travel agent and friend and helped on Bill's final two editions as editor of Playfair. Andrew also researched and provided statistics for the 60th Anniversary of The Lord's Taverners, as well as scoring and commentating for them on one of their annual trips to Dubai to play against the Fly Emirates XI.
Andrew is also a Full Member of M.C.C and enjoys the longer form of the game from the Pavilion concourse. On occasion, he also scored for the B.B.C. during the then NatWest competition at live, quarter-final matches.
He played club cricket for over thirty years at Swindon Cricket Club and Shrivenham as some sort of leg-spin bowler and whose batting position in the order was always confirmed at No. 11 (unless there were fewer or more players available, and playing). A surprise return to the playing field occurred in 2022 at the age of 57: despite playing alongside now England's Women's Head Coach and, at the time of the match, England's bowling coach, Jon Lewis, almost immediate lameness after the match suggests that elevation to more exalted levels is unlikely for Andrew.
His first book, A History and Guide to the Cricket World Cup, was published by White Owl in 2019.
After finishing his travel job voluntarily during the coronavirus period, Andrew is now the verger, one of the churchwardens, bellringer and cleaner at All Saints Church in Lydiard Millicent, a stone's throw from his home in this attractive village in Wiltshire.
As well as featuring travel escapades, this website concentrates predominantly on Test statistics and important ODI competitions and is regularly updated after England's Tests, and other important matches.
