The journey back was tortuous and I was only back around 9.45pm at the hotel after leaving at 6pm, the problem being that you can take a shuttle bus to a place on the Abu Dhabi to Dubai road but, as buses tend to leave Abu Dhabi for Dubai when full, there is little chance of
getting on one so it means getting a shuttle bus into Abu Dhabi, a

taxi to the bus station and a further bus out and the buses don't appear to run as the timetable suggests from what I could make out.
SUNDAY 13 NOVEMBER
The bus to Abu Dhabi was almost an hour late today and some people gave up and went by shared taxi. I went into Abu Dhabi for a while before going by bus to the circuit and arriving an hour and a half before the race.

It was a strange but, as always, exhilarating start and the sight of double and current World Champion, Vettel, coming round last with a re-arranged rear wheel was, for this season, a major surprise. It allowed Hamilton a third victory of the season and he always seemed to have something to spare but, what you do see live, is how close those cars can get. I'm sure I went deaf fifteen years ago at a Grand Prix and this time I wore the biggest set of headphones I could find but afterwards I'm still not convinced they did that much good.
The usual epic journey back was nearly that much longer because I got the Dubai bus with seconds to spare having bought my ticket in the afternoon in anticipation of being rushed for time. Typically, the bus this time was on time...
