The Regal Brasov is new, with fresh and bright colours, the room excellent and the staff very friendly. It may not be that central or convenient but all the other factors made it a very nice place to stay. I did go to Brasov so that I could visit the famous Bran Castle, around 30kms from Brasov, but as I had to wait until the Sunday to |
do this, I had a look at Brasov which is quite a big place. The historic area beautifully kept and a popular spot for, it seems, tourists and locals alike. The buildings are again likewise colourful around the main square and the enormous Black Church oversees this enjoyable area. I went by bus from Brasov to Bran on a dreary day and joined the hordes of tourists all wanting to have a tour of this castle. In fact, there is little to link Vlad Tepes to "Dracula's Castle" but the legend lives on and it is an impressive enough place. I suspect that the photos taken at the back of the castle make it look more imposing but, nonetheless, it was a very worthwhile trip |

especially walking up a secret staircase which linked the many rooms. As with most things in Romania, entrance was cheap at around £4. I must mention here that, in general, the Romanian people were not only very friendly but helpful also and a lot spoke excellent English. One such chap in the first of Brasov's bus stations was a mine of information and I took his advice and went to Romania's capital, Bucharest, by maxibus again. It was, well, cosy as I shared the back row with a family of five. Like several women I saw, the lady's local dress was beautiful. I would have preferred to have gone by train simply because it would have taken me to the Gara de Nord where I was staying so, after a very slight detour without ever feeling really lost - honestly, I ended up in the modern and very pleasant Hello Hotel. |
