Third Test Highlights New Zealand VS. England, Hamilton

  • The 105-run stand in their first innings is New Zealand's first opening century partnership since they played England at Wellington in 2022-23.
  • Matt Henry dismissed Zak Crawley for the sixth successive innings. Crawley therefore equals the highest number of successive dismissals to one bowler joining Kris Srikkanth (to Wasim Akram; India vs. Pakistan in 1989-90); Dilip Vengsarkar (to Imran Khan; India vs. Pakistan in 1982-83); Matthew Hayden (to Makhaya Ntini; Australia vs. South Africa in 2005-06); Greg Matthews (to Sir Richard Hadlee; Australia vs. New Zealand in 1985-86); Daren Ganga (to Shaun Pollock; West Indies vs. South Africa in 1998-99); Walter Read (to Charlie Turner; England vs. Australia in beginning in 1887-88 and continuing throughout the 1888 series) and Graeme Hick (to Sir Curtley Ambrose; England vs. West Indies in 1991).
  • Crawley joins Read, Ganga, Matthews and Hayden in being dismissed by the same bowler in every innings which they played during the same series (based on a series of a minimum of three Tests). Imran's hex over Vengsarkar ended when the latter's last two innings were undefeated.
  • The last occasion that an England side lost their last eight wickets in a completed innings for no more than 66 (as in their first innings in this Test) was at Lord's, also against New Zealand, in 2022.
  • Harry Brook's first-ball dismissal in England's first innings is his first golden duck in Tests. It his second duck, the other one being also against New Zealand, at Wellington in 2022-23, when he was run out without facing a ball.
  • Tim Southee ended his Test career with the second-highest number of wickets (391) for New Zealand, behind only Sir Richard Hadlee's 431. He is one of only six New Zealand cricketers to play 100 or more Tests. Southee's 98 sixes places him fourth-equal with Chris Gayle with only Adam Gilchrist, Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes having hit more.
  • Joe Root became the first player to score 1000 Test runs against New Zealand in New Zealand. During his first innings, he overtook the previous record of 928 by Javed Miandad.
  • Kane Williamson passed 5000 Test runs in New Zealand. This is significantly the highest with the second-heaviest such run-scorer being Ross Taylor with 3905.
  • Williamson's seventh century at Hamilton eclipsed Taylor's six at the same venue. The record number by any player at one venue is 11 by Mahela Jayawardene at Colombo's Singhalese Sports Club.
  • The last time that England lost two players dismissed caught & bowled in the same innings was against Australia at Lord's in 2019.
  • New Zealand's match aggregate of 800 runs is their eighth highest. Their top aggregate is 874 against India at Auckland in 1989-90 whilst their highest against England remains 837 at Nottingham in 2022.
  • New Zealand's last defeat at Hamilton was against South Africa in 2011-12. They have won eight of their last ten Tests there with two draws.
  • New Zealand's 423-run victory equals their highest ever (by runs), their other 423-run win being over Sri Lanka at Christchurch in 2018-19.
  • The last occasion that England used eight or more bowlers in one innings was against India at Chennai in 2016-17.
  • New Zealand's win is the joint-tenth highest by runs in Test cricket history. The highest is 675 runs by England against Australia at Brisbane's Exhibition Ground in 1928-29.
