After the excitement of New Zealand's one-run win over England, two further Tests, albeit with both finishing on the third day, were taking place between India and Australia at Indore and South Africa against West Indies at Centurion. Below are some of the highlights.

INDIA VS. AUSTRALIA AT INDORE, THIRD TEST
  • India's first innings 109 is their joint-thirteen lowest total in India. It is also their fifth lowest in India after winning the toss and batting in the first innings of a match. In both instances, their 75 against West Indies at Delhi in 1987-88 is their lowest total.
  • India's match aggregate of 272 runs for 20 wickets is their joint-third lowest in India. Their lowest is 212 for 20 wickets against Australia at Gahunje in 2016-17.
  • Nathan Lyon's second innings 8 for 64 is the joint-third best innings performance against India in India. Ajaz Patel's 10 for 119 for New Zealand at Mumbai in 2021-22 is the best and Lyon's own 8 for 50 at Bangalore in 2016-17 is second. Lyon's 8 for 64 are the same as Lance Klusener's for South Africa at Calcutta in 1996-97.
  • Lyon's figures are the best at Indore surpassing Ravichandran Ashwin's 7 for 59 against New Zealand in 2016-17.
  • Matthew Kuhnemann's first innings figures of 5 for 16 are the third most economical by a bowler taking five wickets in an innings against India in India. Joe Root's 5 for 8 at Ahmedabad in 2020-21 heads the list just ahead of Michael Clarke's 6 for 9 at Mumbai in 2004-05.
  • The last occasion where there was no fifty partnership for India in India was at Bangalore against Pakistan in 1986-87.
  • For only their third occasion, India opened the bowling with two spinners in their opponents' first innings of a Test. The only other occasions were at Mumbai in 2012-13 against England and at Kanpur against England in 1963-64.
  • The match aggregate of 547 for 31 wickets is the second lowest in a Test in India behind only the 387 for 30 wickets between India and England at Ahmedabad in 2020-21.
  • Australia's win is their 14th in India, drawing level with England. The most successful team, West Indies, have fifteen wins.
SOUTH AFRICA VS. WEST INDIES, CENTURION FIRST TEST
  • Aiden Markram's 162 runs in the Test (out of the match total of 829) gives him the sixth-highest percentage of match runs (19.54) by one player in Tests between South Africa and West Indies. The list is headed by Quinton de Kock's 141 out of 581 (24.27%) at Gros Islet in 2021.
  • In losing all ten second innings wickets for 85 runs, South Africa's collapse is the worst (from losing their first to last wicket) at Centurion. Previously, England had gone from 2-0 to 101 all out in 2015-16.
  • The South African second innings saw the thirteenth occasion - and last since 1996-97 - where a team's numbers 2 to 8 inclusive have failed to reach double figures in a completed innings.
  • Joshua da Silva joined Bob Taylor (England vs. India at Bombay in 1979-80), Wasim Bari ( Pakistan vs. New Zealand at Auckland in 1978-79), Ridley Jacobs (West Indies vs. Australia at Melbourne in 2000-01) and Ian Smith (New Zealand vs. Sri Lanka at Hamilton in 1990-91) to take a record seven catches in one innings. Like Wasim Bari, da Silva did not take a catch in the other innings.
  • The seven ducks in the Test is the joint-highest in Tests between South Africa and West Indies. There have been two other occasions: at Cape Town in 1998-99 and at Gros Islet in 2021.
  • Temba Bavuma became the 25th captain to register a pair. He is the fourth South African captain to do so and, of these 25 occasions, Centurion Park has the greatest number (4).
  • The 22 scores under 10 in the match is the joint-highest in a Test at Centurion, the other occasion being between South Africa and New Zealand in 2016.
  • The match aggregate of 829 runs for 40 wickets is the fifth-lowest in Tests between South Africa and West Indies. The lowest is 581 for 30 wickets at Gros Islet in 2021.
  • The last occasion where there was a five-wicket haul in each of the four innings of the same Test was in 2020-21 at Rawalpindi between Pakistan and South Africa.
  • Kagiso Rabada followed Dale Steyn and Makhaya Ntini in taking 50 wickets in Tests at Centurion.
  • The Test saw only the fourth occasion of the captains making three ducks between them. The other three occasions saw no runs in the match scored by captains: in the New Zealand against West Indies Test at Dunedin in 1956-57 and the Pakistan against Australia match at Sharjah in 2002-03, there were only three innings in the match with both captains recording ducks. In the South Africa against Pakistan Test at Centurion Park in 2018-19, both captains recorded a pair.
