Second Test Highlights New Zealand VS. England, Wellington

  • Harry Brook overtook the England record of most centuries in their first ten Tests overseas. Brook's 123 is his seventh hundred in his first ten overseas Tests overtaking Ken Barrington and Chris Broad who scored six in the same circumstances.
  • Brook's tally of 1519 in his first ten overseas Tests is significantly the highest by any England player with Wally Hammond (1226) the previous highest.
  • The partnership of 174 between Brook and Ollie Pope is England's highest for the fifth wicket at Wellington surpassing the 118 in 1996-97 between Graham Thorpe and John Crawley.
  • Gus Atkinson's hat-trick is England's fifteenth in their Test history and third against New Zealand, the last one being by Ryan Sidebottom at Hamilton in 2007-08.
  • The last time that four successive England players scored fifties in the same innings overseas was also against New Zealand, at Christchurch in 2017-18. Their last time in England was against Australia at Manchester in 2023.
  • England's second innings 423 for 6 declared is the second-longest innings (82.3 overs) where there have been no maidens bowled. The only longer innings was England's 88.5 over 469 for 4 declared against South Africa at Durban in 1938-39.
  • Zak Crawley has now been dismissed by Matt Henry on six occasions. Whilst there have been many such instances by other players, Crawley has been dismissed by Henry in his last four innings and the record number of successive dismissals by an England player to one bowler is six by Graeme Hick to Curtley Ambrose in 1991 whilst, against New Zealand, Derek Randall's five to Sir Richard Hadlee in 1983/84 tops the list.
  • New Zealand's 323-run defeat is their largest by runs in New Zealand surpassing their 299-run loss to Pakistan at Auckland in 2000-01.
  • New Zealand's smallest home victory (1 run vs. England in 2022-23) and biggest home defeat (innings and 322 runs vs. West Indies in 1994-95) have also both taken place at Wellington.
  • Tom Blundell's second innings 115 is his fourth Test century as wicket-keeper. Three of these have been against England.
  • Joe Root (1839 runs) is just 80 runs behind Javed Miandad as the heaviest scorer against New Zealand in Test cricket.
  • The 16 maidens bowled in the Test is the fewest between England and New Zealand in a Test with a result. The previous lowest was 31 at Christchurch in the First Test of this current series.
