This is, to my knowledge, the third "literary" book published recently by Fairfield Books and the third which I have been fortunate to have been sent. I may already have mentioned that, initially, this concerned me as I wondered how I might write a review which did not show up my lack of knowledge in this area... The other way of looking at is to say that the more I read, the better my knowledge becomes and I have enjoyed all three.

What first struck me about Ben Wyatt's first book was the cover photograph of the famous - some may say infamous - bus top tour around London by England's victorious cricketers in 2005 after wresting back the Ashes in the legendary 2005 series. And there is a good reason for this photograph as this dinky little book is all about that series.

Many books have been written on the series yet this one is different as it is a collection of poems written by the author. The book may only be 70 pages long and will fit nicely into a jacket pocket - ideal for a day at the cricket - but Ben has managed to include 41 poems on this most famous of series.

Ragged Splendour manages to re-live some of the iconic moments of the series and I am envious of Ben's poetic ability and wish that I had had the same talent whilst studying English A Level many years ago. Some are short, others significantly longer and all will bring memories flooding back.

The book is adorned with photographs and drawings and Mick Jagger appears twice making me wonder if Ben is maybe a fan of the Rolling Stones star.

Well done to Ben and Fairfield Books on this lovely book and one which I wish both every success with.
