India VS. Australia Second Test Highlights, Delhi

  • For their third time in India, Australia registered six ducks in a Test. The previous occasions were at Kanpur in 1959-60 and at Kolkata in 2000-01.
  • Ravindra Jadeja's 7 for 42 is his best Test bowling surpassing his 7 for 48 against England at Chennai in 2016-17.
  • Jadeja's match analysis of 10 for 110 is also his best. Previously, his 10 for 154 against England at Chennai in 2016-17 was his best.
  • Jadeja became the fourth Indian bowler to dismiss five players bowled in one innings. The others are Anil Kumble, Jasu Patel and Bapu Nadkhani.
  • Australia lost eight players bowled in the Test, their second-highest number in India. They have twice lost nine, at Kanpur in 1959-60 and at Delhi in 2012-13.
  • The last occasion in which Steven Smith failed to reach double figures in both innings of a Test was in December 2020 against India at Melbourne.
  • In losing their last nine second-innings wickets for 48 runs, Australia suffered their worst batting collapse against India in a completed innings from one wicket down. Their previous lowest was 65 in this series at Nagpur.
  • Australia narrowly avoided their briefest, completed innings against India. Their innings of 187 balls (31.1 overs) is two balls more than their 185 (30.5 overs) at Mumbai in 2004-05. Their third lowest was in the First Test of the current series when their second innings 91 lasted 195 balls (32.3 overs). Against all opposition, their shortest innings is 108 balls (18 overs) when they scored 47 against South Africa at Cape Town in 2011-12.
  • The Test's result means that Australia have won only one of their eight Tests at Delhi, their first in 1959-60.
  • Matthew Kuhnemann became the first Australian bowler to take Virat Kohli's wicket as his first in Tests.
  • Both Ravichandran Ashwin and Nathan Lyon reached 100 wickets in Tests between India and Australia.
  • Lyon became the third player after James Anderson (139) and Muttiah Muralitharan (105) to take 100 Test wickets against India. The match aggregate of 756 for 34 wickets is the third lowest (with a result) at Delhi. The India and Pakistan Test of 1952-53 is the lowest with 674 runs for 30 wickets.
  • The match was the eleventh which involved a concussion substitute, Matt Renshaw replacing David Warner. This is the second occasion that Australia have had a replacement after the first ever at Lord's in 2019. In the India and Bangladesh Kolkata Test in 2019-20, there were two concussion replacements within the Bangladesh side.
