First Test Highlights Pakistan VS. England, Multan
- Pakistan's 556 is their highest total at Multan's Cricket Stadium surpassing their 546 for 3 against Bangladesh in 2001-02.
- The 253-run partnership between Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood is Pakistan's highest for any wicket at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The previous best was 168 between Saeed Anwar and Taufeeq Umar for Pakistan in the same Test mentioned above.
- Pakistan's innings saw the nineteenth occasion of three (or more) players scoring a century in the same innings. Their record is five at Multan in 2001-02 and nine of these occasions have been in Pakistan. Their last occasion was also against England, at Rawalpindi in 2022-23.
- Including this Test, there have been three occasions of a losing side's innings including three centurions, the other occasions being Pakistan vs. England at Rawalpindi in 2022-23 and Sri Lanka Australia at Colombo (SSC) in 1992-93.
- The last occasion of a Pakistan side having five fifty plus partnerships in the same innings in Pakistan was at Karachi against Sri Lanka in 2008-09.
- Shan Masood's 151 is the fiftieth century by a Pakistan captain.
- Joe Root became England's heaviest run scorer overtaking Sir Alastair Cook's 12472 runs.
- For their first time in Pakistan, England had three consecutive century partnerships.
- England's 823 for 7 is their third-highest total and the fourth highest by any side. The highest by any country is Sri Lanka's 952 for 6 against India at Colombo (RPS) in 1997-98 whilst England's only higher totals are 903 for 7 against Australia at The Oval in 1938 and 849 against West Indies at Kingston in 1929-30.
- The 454-run partnership between Joe Root and Harry Brook is England's highest for any wicket against all opposition surpassing the 411 (for the fourth wicket) by Colin Cowdrey and Peter May against West Indies at Edgbaston in 1957.
- The Root and Brook partnership is the fourth highest for any wicket in Test history. The highest is 624 between Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene for Sri Lanka against South Africa at Colombo (SSC) in 2006.
- Root's 601-minute innings is only the fourteenth longest for England whilst Root himself has twice batted longer (632 minutes vs. New Zealand at Hamilton in 2019-20 and 614 minutes vs. Pakistan at Old Trafford in 2016).
- Root's innings is the eleventh longest in Pakistan and the third longest by a visiting player. Younis Khan's 768-minute 313 for Pakistan against Sri Lanka at Karachi in 2008-09 tops the list whilst the longest by a visiting player is Rahul Dravid's 740-minute 270 for India at Rawalpindi in 2003-04 is the highest by a visiting player.
- Root scored 144 runs on the second day, the most by an England player who was in at the start of the day and still in at the end. In the same circumstances, England's next highest was 137 by Colin Milburn at Karachi's National Stadium in 1968-69.
- Brook's 317 is England's fifth-highest score and he is their sixth triple centurion joining Sir Len Hutton, Wally Hammond, Graham Gooch, Andrew Sandham and John Edrich. It is the third-highest score for England overseas behind Hammond and Sandham.
- Brook's innings is England's highest against Pakistan overtaking Denis Compton's 278 at Trent Bridge in 1954.
- Brook's score is the third highest in Pakistan and the second highest by an overseas player there. The record is held by Australia's Mark Taylor during his unbeaten 334 at Peshawar in 1998-99.
- Brook reached his triple century in 310 balls, the second quickest by balls in Test cricket behind only Virender Sehwag's 278 for India against South Africa at Chennai in 2007-08.
- Brook became the third visiting player to score four centuries in Pakistan joining Mohinder Amarnath and Aravinda de Silva.
- When the Root and Brook stand was finally broken, England's total of 703 is their highest score at the time of the fall of the fourth wicket. Previously, 667 at Kingston in 1929-30 against West Indies had been their highest. By all countries, that score is the third highest at the fall of the fourth wicket, the only higher ones being 790 by Sri Lanka against India at Colombo (RPS) in 1997-98 and 751, also by Sri Lanka against South Africa at Colombo (SSC) in 2006.
- Both Root and Brook made their highest Test scores.
- After playing four Tests in Pakistan, Brook has scored 785 runs (average 130.83) with a century in each of those Tests. Sanjay Manjrekar played his first four (and only) Tests in Pakistan in 1989-90 making 569 runs (average 94.83) with two centuries whilst Sunil Gavaskar made 530 runs (average 88.33 with two centuries). Gavaskar is, to date, the only visiting player to score 1000 Test runs in Pakistan.
- Whilst there have been twenty occasions of two double centurions in the same innings, England's innings saw only the fourth time of there being a score of 300 or more and another of 200 or more. The other three occasions have been for West Indies against Pakistan in Kingston in 1957-58; Sri Lanka against India at Colombo (RPS) in 1997-98 and Sri Lanka against South Africa at Colombo (SSC) in 2006.
- For only the second time, six bowlers conceded 100 or more in the same innings. The other occasion was by Zimbabwe against Sri Lanka at Bulawayo in 2003-04.
- England's innings contained just one maiden over. There were no maidens bowled on the third day. The team previously bowling fewest maidens in 700+ totals is Sri Lanka (10) in India's 726 for 9 at Brabourne, Mumbai in 2009/10. The most is 67 by Australia in England's 903 for 7 at The Oval in 1938.
- Ollie Pope became the fifteenth captain to register a duck in a team's total of over 500. The highest such total was previously 648 for 9 by West Indies against Bangladesh at Khulna in 2012-13 with captain Darren Sammy (who, like Tim Southee, performed the feat twice) scoring a duck.
- Abdullah Shafique became the seventh Pakistan opener to score a century and a duck in the same Test and the second against England. The last player to do so is the current Pakistan captain, Shan Masood, at Old Trafford in 2020.
- Shafique also became the first Pakistan opener to score a century in one innings of a Test but dismissed to the first legitimate ball of the team's innings in the other innings.
- The last Pakistan opener to be dismissed by the first legitimate ball of an innings was Mohammad Hafeez against South Africa at Centurion Park in 2012-13
- England's 267-run lead on first innings is the second highest in all Tests after the side batting first has scored 500 or more. The highest is Sri Lanka's 415-run lead against India at Colombo (RPS) in 1997-98 after they made 952 for 6 in reply to India's 537 for 8.
- Salman Agha became the third Pakistan player batting at seven or below to record a century in one innings and a fifty in the other of the same Test. The other players to accomplish the feat are Wasim Raja and Sarfaraz Ahmed.
- The match aggregate of 1599 runs is the highest at Multan Cricket Stadium overtaking the 1409 between Pakistan and West Indies in 2006-07.
- Pakistan's first innings 556 is now the highest first innings total by a team which has gone on to lose the match by an innings. Previously, Ireland's 492 against Sri Lanka at Galle in 2023 was the highest.
- The last occasion that a Pakistan team was beaten by an innings in Pakistan was against India at Rawalpindi in 2003-04. It is only their sixth such defeat in 167 Tests played in Pakistan.
- England have now won their last four Tests in Pakistan. No other side has managed more than two.
