England endured another disappointing series failing to reach the knockout stages. Here are some of the match highlights.
ENGLAND VS. AUSTRALIA, LAHORE
- England's 351 for 8 is their highest total in the ICC Champions Trophy surpassing their 323 for 8 against South Africa at Centurion in 2009-10.
- England's total is also the highest first innings total by any team in the history of the competition.
- It is also the highest, losing first innings score after Australia replied with 356 for 5 in 47.3 overs by all teams in the ICC Champions Trophy.
- It is the tenth-highest, first innings losing total by any team in all ODIs.
- Ben Duckett's 165 is England's fifth-highest score in all ODIs with Ben Stokes's 182 against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023 leading the way. Duckett's score is also England's highest at the ICC Champions Trophy overtaking Joe Root's 133* against Bangladesh at The Oval in 2017.
- Jofra Archer's 10-0-82-1 is the joint-most runs conceded by an England player in the ICC Champions Trophy. Jake Ball had previously conceded the same number of runs against Bangladesh at The Oval in 2017.
- England's innings saw the third occasion in the ICC Champions Trophy of five bowlers conceding 50 or more runs apiece in the same innings.
- The match also saw the second-highest number of bowlers (8) conceding 50 or more apiece in the ICC Champions Trophy. The only higher number (9) was set between India and Sri Lanka at The Oval in 2017 although this would be equalled in England's next match against Afghanistan.
- The 707 runs (for 13 wickets) in the match is the highest ICC Champions Trophy match aggregate surpassing the 643 for 9 wickets between India and Sri Lanka at The Oval in 2017.
ENGLAND VS. AFGHANISTAN, LAHORE
- Ibrahim Zadran's 177 is the highest ODI for Afghanistan beating his own 162 against Sri Lanka at Pallekele in 2022-23.
- Afghanistan's win is their second in a row against England, having also beaten them in the 2023 World Cup.
- Afghanistan's win by 8 runs is the second narrowest in the ICC Champions Trophy with only India's 5-run win over England at Birmingham in the 2013 final (in a reduced overs match) in front of it.
- England's 317 is the highest, losing second innings total in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy. The previous lowest was South Africa's 305 against India at Cardiff in 2013.
- Azmatullah Omarai's 5 for 58 is the thirteenth occasion in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy of a bowler taking five or more wickets in an innings.
- Joe Root joined Marcus Trescothick as the only other player to score two ICC Champions Trophy centuries.
ENGLAND VS. SOUTH AFRICA, KARACHI
- England's loss to South Africa means that they have lost their last four ICC Champions Trophy matches (dating back to 2017), a record number for them. The most consecutive defeats in the competition by any team is nine by Zimbabwe between 24 October 1998 and 13 October 2006.
- Joe Root finished this year's competition on 656 ICC Champions Trophy runs which places him as the sixth leading run-scorer in the history of the competition. Chris Gayle (791) heads the list.
- Root's 37 is the second-lowest top score in a completed England innings at the ICC Champions Trophy with only Eoin Morgan's 33 against India at Edgbaston in the 2013 final (in a match reduced to 20 overs per side) being lower.
