Australia VS. England Fourth Test Highlights, Melbourne
- The first day's play saw the sixth occasion between the two teams of 20 or more wickets falling on the first day. Three of these occasions have been at Melbourne whilst two have taken place at The Oval and once at Old Trafford. The last time was at Old Trafford in 1909 whilst, in Australia, it was 1901-02.
- It was the third occasion where the third innings started on the first day between the two teams. The other occasions were at The Oval in 1890 and at Melbourne in 1901-02.
- England's 110 is their second-lowest, completed total against Australia which has included a fifty partnership. Their lowest (105) was also at Melbourne in 1907-08.
- In a side's first innings of a Test, England's total is their lowest completed innings against Australia with a fifty partnership surpassing their 113, again at Melbourne, in 1878-79.
- The last occasion that an England side's numbers 1 to 4 inclusive failed to reach double figures was at Headingley in 2022 against New Zealand. Against Australia, the last time was at Sydney in 2013-14.
- Joe Root scored his 15th duck for England. Seven of these have been against Australia and his 15-ball innings is the most he has received before being dismissed for 0.
- England's first innings lasted just 29.5 overs (179 balls), their sixth shortest innings against all opposition. Their shortest is 143 balls against Australia at Sydney in 1886-87.
- England's first innings total is their ninth lowest in their first match innings against all opposition where they have gone on to win. Their lowest is 45 against Australia at Sydney in 1886-87.
- England's first innings is also their fifth shortest against all opposition where they have gone on to win. Their shortest first such match innings is 23.4 overs against Ireland at Lord's in 2019. Against Australia in the same circumstances, their shortest is 35.3 four-ball overs which equates to 23.5 six-ball overs for comparison purposes at Sydney in 1886-87.
- England's first innings collapse to 16 for 4 is their fourth worst against Australia. Their worst is 5 for 4 at Melbourne in 1903-04 followed by 13 for 4 at Sydney in 1886-87.
- The last time that an England side lost its first five wickets for a comparable number of runs to this Test (66) and their last five (42) was at Headingley in 2009.
- The last time an Australian side lost its first five wickets for a comparable number of runs to this Test (89) and their last five (61) was at Trent |Bridge in 2015.
- England's 110 in the first innings is only their joint 61st-lowest, completed total against all opposition in their Test history. However, of this number, Melbourne is the venue where they have the majority of their lowest totals (13) with their next least successful being Lord's and The Oval (7 each).
- The last occasion when England and Australia had a result when no-one scored a fifty was at Edgbaston in 1981.
- England have now featured in fifteen Tests where they have won without a single of their players reaching 50. The last occasion was at Lord's against West Indies in 2000.

- England's last win in Australia was nineteen Tests ago, at Sydney in 2010-11. Their drought of 18 Tests without a win is their longest in Australia, their previous record being 12 between 1937 and 1951.
- England made 288 runs in the match, their eighth-lowest aggregate in a Test in which they have beaten Australia. Their lowest is 172 (for ten wickets) at Old Trafford in 1888 whilst the last time they beat Australia by making fewer than 288 match runs was at Headingley in 1972 (284).
- The Test was the second shortest by balls (852) with a result at Melbourne behind only the Australia vs. South Test of 1931-32 (656).
- It was also the fourth shortest by balls between England and Australia. The only shorter ones were at Old Trafford in 1888 (788), Lord's in 1888 (792) and during this current series, at Perth (847).
- Steve Smith went into second place on the all-time catching list overtaking Rahul Dravid's 210 catches. Smith now stands on 212 with only Joe Root (216) ahead of him.
- Harry Brook became the tenth quickest to 50 catches in a career. Brook achieved this in his 34th Test and is the third quickest to do so for England behind only Graeme Hick and Tony Greig. The record is 26 Tests by India's Eknath Solkar.
