Third Test Highlights England VS. West Indies at Edgbaston
Congratulations to England on their 3-0 series victory, their ninth straight series win over West Indies in England stretching back to 2000.
- Joe Root became the seventh player and second from England to score 12000 Test runs.
- Root took 4245 days to reach the milestone, the quickest by days of all those who have reached 12000 Test runs. The next quickest is Sir Alastair Cook (4331 days).
- England's first innings collapse to 54 for five is their second-worst start against West Indies in England. Their worst was at Lord's (50 for five) in 2000 followed by the earlier Edgbaston Test in the same 2000 series (60 for five). Their worst overall was at Kingston in 2008-09 (23 for five).
- England's recovery to 376 means that the 322 runs added from the fall of the fifth wicket is their second-highest against all opposition. Their record remains 399 against Pakistan at Lord's when they recovered from 47 for five to 446.
- For their fourth time against West Indies, England recorded four fifties but no century in an innings. The previous occasions were at The Oval in 1995 and also in 2004 and at Old Trafford in 2020.
- Gus Atkinson's 22 wickets in his debut series is the joint-fourth best by any cricketer. Axar Patel (27 wickets for India vs. England in 2020-21) heads the list whilst the only English bowler to take more than Atkinson is Alec Bedser (24 vs. India in 1946).
- Root (920 runs) became the heaviest scorer at Egbaston overtaking Sir Alastair Cook (869).
- Jamie Smith became the ninth England wicket-keeper to be dismissed in the 90s. There have been fourteen such instances with Alan Knott dismissed three times.
- The partnership of 106 between Smith and Chris Woakes is only the third century stand for the eighth wicket at Edgbaston.
- England's series win is their third against West Indies in which they have won all Tests played in a series (based on a minimum of three). The other occasions were in 1928 and 2004.
