England VS. Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge Only Test Highlights

  • The opening stand of 231 between Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley is England's highest against any nation in the first match innings after being inserted. The previous highest was 179 between Mark Butcher and Michael Atherton against South Africa at Edgbaston in 1998.
  • The above partnership is the fourth highest by any country under the same circumstances as above. The highest is 301 between Graeme Smith and Herschelle Gibbs for South Africa against West Indies at Centurion Park in 2003-04.
  • It is also the sixth occasion of both openers scoring centuries in the first match innings after their team had been inserted. It is, though, the first time by England.
  • Zak Crawley reached 3000 Test runs in his 54th match.
  • The England first innings saw the third occasion of the top three in the order all scoring hundreds in the first match innings after their side had been inserted. The other occasions were India vs. Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2007 and South Africa vs. Bangladesh at Bloemfontein in 2017-18.
  • Joe Root joined Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid in scoring 13000 Test runs. Root (34 years 143 days) is the youngest of the five to reach 13000 runs surpassing Tendulkar (36 years 268 days) and is the quickest in terms of Tests (153) ahead of Kallis (159) but slowest in terms of innings (279) behind Tendulkar (266), Kallis (269), Ponting (275) and Dravid (277).
  • Although England (498 for 3) fell just short of the, and their, record number of runs scored on the first day of a Test (506 for 4 vs. Pakistan at Rawalpindi in 2022/23), they did comfortably make the highest total by an inserted team on the first day surpassing New Zealand's 452 for 9, also against Zimbabwe, at Harare in 2005.
  • England became the second team (after India vs. Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2007) to be inserted and respond, in the first match innings, with three consecutive century partnerships from the start of their innings. India's innings was different in that both of their openers retired hurt so that they had actually registered three century partnerships by the time the first wicket fell at 408.
  • England's 565 for 6 is their highest total against Zimbabwe surpassing their 472 at Lord's in 2003.
  • Brian Bennett became only the third Zimbabwean player to score a century against England. The last person to do so was Murray Goodwin, also at Trent Bridge, in 2000.
  • Bennett's century in 97 balls is the quickest for Zimbabwe surpassing Sean Williams's 106-ball innings against New Zealand at Bulawayo in 2016.
  • Shoaib Bashir's second-innings 6 for 81 is the second-best analysis for England against Zimbabwe behind only Richard Johnson's 6 for 33 at Chester-le-Street in 2003.
  • Bashir's match analysis of 9 for 143 is the best for England against Zimbabwe surpassing Ed Giddins's 7 for 42 at Lord's in 2000.
