Azan Awais became the second Pakistani cricketer to be dismissed by the first ball of a Test after Mohsin Khan against India at Jalandhar in 1983-84. Both fell lbw.
The last player from any country to fall to the first ball of a Test was India's Yashasvi Jaiswal, against Australia at Adelaide in 2024-25.
For the ninth time in their Test history, England's numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6 passed fifty each. Their last occasion was against Australia at Manchester in 2023 when numbers 1,3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 performed the feat. The Manchester Test was also the only other occasion when numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6 scored over 50 with none continuing on to a century for England.
The last occasion when two English pace bowlers took five wickets apiece and thereby shared all the wickets in a completed innings for England was against West Indies at Port-of-Spain in 1997-98.
Ali Usman became the first Pakistani spinner to take five wickets in an innings against England in England since Yasir Shah at The Oval in 2016. Usman's is the eighth such performance by six Pakistani spinners.
Pakistan's match aggregate of 306 runs is their sixth lowest against England. All six have been in England with their lowest 221 at Lord's in 2010. It is also their lowest aggregate at Headingley where they made 308 in 2018 in their two completed innings.
The last occasion that a Pakistan side had just one fifty partnership in the same Test over two completed innings against England was at Lord's in 2010. This had been achieved through the last-wicket pair in the second innings.
Joe Root overtook Steven Smith with the highest number of catches (219) in Test history. With both Root and Smith still currently playing, the record could regularly change hands.
The match saw just 1053 balls, the fewest between England and Pakistan in a test with a result. The previous lowest number was 1165 at Lord's in 1978.
It is the fourth fewest balls in a Test with a result at Headingley, the lowest number being 941 between England and West Indies in 2000.
Ollie Robinson (8-80) and Josh Tongue (8-89) secured second and third best bowling analyses for England and Pakistan at Headingley. Lord Botham's 9-144 in 1982 tops the list.
For their ninth time against England, Pakistan managed a maximum of one individual fifty in a match in which they lost all twenty wickets. On two of these occasions they failed to score one and all nine occasions have been in England. One further occasion, at Edgbaston in 1978, saw Pakistan lost nineteen wickets with one player retired hurt.
