England VS. New Zealand First Test Highlights, Lord's
- Lord's celebrated its 150th Test. The grounds with next most Tests are Melbourne (118), Sydney (114) and The Oval (108).
- The sixteen wickets to fall on the first day is the seventh most at Lord's on the first day of a Test. The record remains 20 between England and Ireland in 2019.
- Whilst the number above is the seventh highest, the sixteen wickets to fall fell in only 59 overs at a rate of a wicket every 3.69 overs. The other closest were England vs. Ireland in 2019 (4.15 overs) and England vs. New Zealand in 2022 (4.47 overs).
- England's first innings 140 is their second-lowest total at Lord's without a duck. Their lowest is 77 against Australia in 1997.
- The New Zealand first innings saw their fifteenth occasion where their top four failed to reach double figures. This figures includes two previous occasions at Lord's (in 2013 and 2022).
- New Zealand's first innings collapse made some interesting reading. They have only twice lost their first three wickets for fewer than the 2 runs in this match: both were 1 for 3, vs. West Indies at Bridgetown in 1984-85 and vs. Pakistan at Lahore in 1976-77. They were also 2 for 3 vs.South Africa at Centurion in 2016.
- Strangely, New Zealand also found themselves 12 for 4 in their last Lord's Test against England in 2022. Their worst start at the fall of the fourth wicket was against South Africa at Centurion in 2016 when they were 7 for 4. In this Test, New Zealand's fifth wicket fell at 20 equalling their worst-ever start at the fall of that wicket, against Pakistan at Dhaka in 1955-56.
- New Zealand also fell to 29 for 6 against England at Lord's in 2013.
- Emilio Gay joined Sir Andrew Strauss, Jack Russell, Peter Richardson (jointly with Sir Colin Cowdrey) and Graeme Fowler as making the highest score of the match by an England left-hander on debut.
- Nathan Smith's 6 for 70 is the third-best innings bowling by New Zealand at Lord's behind only Tim Southee (6 for 43 in 2021 and 6 for 50 in 2013). Smith became the eighth New Zealand player to take five wickets in an innings at Lord's with Kyle Jamieson becoming the seventh in the first innings.
- Smith's match figures of 9 for 108 are the third best for New Zealand at Lord's. Dion Nash (11-169 in 1994) heads the list.
- The 11 lbws in the match is the joint-third highest at Lord's. The record is 14 between England and India in 2007.
- New Zealand's match aggregate of 251 runs is their second-lowest at Lord's behind only their 121 in 1958.
- The seven ducks registered by New Zealand is the joint-most by one team at Lord's. India (vs. England in 2018) and England (vs. India in 2021) are the others with the same number.
- This number is New Zealand's joint-second highest against any team. They have made eight on three occasions.
- The match lasted 996 balls, the second-fewest at Lord's with a result. The lowest is 792 between England and Australia in 1888.
- It is also the fewest balls in a Test with a result between England and New Zealand surpassing the 1041 at Christchurch in 1983-84.
- The match aggregate of 617 runs is the ninth-lowest at Lord's, the lowest being just 291 between England and Australia in 1888.
- The last occasion of a New Zealand side not registering a single, individual fifty in a match (in which they lost a minimum of nineteen wickets) was at Wanderers against South Africa in 2007-08.
- For the sixteenth occasion in their Test history, there were fifteen or more occasions of their players not reaching double figures in a Test for New Zealand. Their last occasion was against India in Mumbai in 2021-22. The same has happened at Lord's twice (in 1958 and 2013).
- Gus Atkinson joined Lord Ian Botham in taking five wickets in an innings at Lord's four times in his first three Tests at the ground.
- After the same number of matches, Atkinson's 26 wickets at Lord's is the joint-most alongside Hedley Verity and Glenn McGrath.
- Glenn Phillips was the only New Zealand player to reach double figures in both innings of the Test. Whilst this has happened on numerous occasions for New Zealand, against India at Mumbai in 2021-22 none of their players reached double figures in both innings.
- Phillips scored 31.08% of New Zealand's runs. Although there have been many higher percentages, this is the sixth-highest by a New Zealand player against England at Lord's.
- This is the eighteenth occasion in which a New Zealand side has not recorded an individual fifty in a Test with a result. The last occasion was against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2007-08.
