Australia Women Vs. England Women Only Test Highlights, Melbourne
England's unsuccessful tour of Australia ended with their seventh successive defeat of the tour and a 16-0 points aggregate.
Below are some of the highlights from the only Test of the series.
- The MCG was used for its third women's Test, the last time being in 1948-49.
- Australia's victory by an innings and 122 runs is their second-largest innings victory over England behind only their innings and 140 runs at Shenley in 2001. * There have been four innings victories between the sides with Australia winning all four.
- Australia's 440 is their fourth-highest total against England. Their highest is 569 for 6 declared at Guildford in 1998.
- For the fourth time, Australia scored four 50+ partnerships in an innings against England.
- Sophie Ecclestone's 5 for 143 is the twenty-first occasion of an England lady taking five wickets in an innings against Australia. Ecclestone joins Katherine Sciver-Brunt and Mary Duggan in achieving the feat on three occasions.
- Ecclestone's figures are, however, the the most expensive by an England lady against all opposition irrespective of wickets taken surpassing her own 5 for 129, also against Australia, at Trent Bridge in 2023.
- Annabel Sutherland joined fellow Australians Betty Wilson and Jill Kennare in scoring three Test centuries.
- Beth Mooney became the eighth wicket-keeper to score a Test century. The last player was fellow Australian, Jodie Fields, also against England, at Worcester in 2009.
- For the fifth occasion, an Australian innings included two or more centuries. Four of these occasions have been against England.
- Alana King's match figures of 9 for 98 are the seventh best for Australia against England and the best at Melbourne surpassing Peggy Antonio's 8 for 104 for Australia against England in 1934-35. Ash Gardner's 12 for 165 at Trent Bridge in 2023 is Australia's best against England.
- Of the 151 Women's Tests played, just over a third (53) have been between England and Australia. Of this number, Australia have won 14, England nine with thirty draws.
