WORLD CUP MATCHES 15, 16 and 17

MATCH 15 SOUTH AFRICA VS. WEST INDIES AT SOUTHAMPTON

  • The current Southampton ground’s first World Cup match became the eighth to be declared a No Result after rain. The last No Result in the World Cup was in 2011 at Colombo between Sri Lanka and Australia.

MATCH 16 BANGLADESH VS. SRI LANKA AT BRISTOL

  • Bristol became the first venue to have two World Cup games abandoned due to rain. It is the fourth game to be abandoned since 1975, the other venues being The Oval and Brisbane.

MATCH 17 AUSTRALIA VS. PAKISTAN AT TAUNTON

  • Australia’s opening stand of 146 is their fourth highest at the World Cup after losing the toss and being inserted.
  • Mohammad Amir’s 5 for 30 is not only the best bowling for Pakistan against Australia in the World Cup but it is also the first time a Pakistani bowler has taken five wickets in a World Cup innings against Australia. This is the tenth such time that the sides have met.
  • Amir’s performance is Pakistan’s fourth-best at the World Cup.
  • Amir’s analysis is the best in an ODI at Taunton surpassing India’s Robin Singh who took 5 for 31 against Sri Lanka in 1999.
  • In losing their last eight wickets for 86 runs, Australia suffered their third-worst World Cup collapse. This is based on runs scored from the loss of the third wicket. In these circumstances, their worst is 65 against England at Sydney in 1992.
  • The match saw only the second occasion in the 2019 tournament that both sides have been dismissed.
  • After the seventeenth match of the 2019 World Cup, only New Zealand (three matches) have a 100% winning record after winning the toss and fielding first. West Indies are the only other side to have won once in the same circumstances whilst Afghanistan, Bangladesh, England, West Indies, Pakistan and South Africa (twice) have lost after winning the toss and failing to make their target.
