First Test Highlights England Vs. India at Trent Bridge

A washed-out final day spoilt what might still have been an exciting day's play. Both England and India therefore go to Lord's with neither side in the lead.

Some of the highlights of the Test are given below.

  • England's 183 is their third-lowest total against all opposition at Trent Bridge after winning the toss and batting. Their lowest is 112 against Australia in 1921.
  • The above innings also saw the first time that an England team has registered four ducks in an innings at Trent Bridge.
  • Jasprit Bumrah's match analysis of 9 for 110 is the second-best by an Indian bowler against England in England. Chetan Sharma's 10 for 188 at Birmingham in 1986 is the best.
  • Bumrah became the first Indian bowler to twice take five wickets in an innings at Trent Bridge.
  • Bumrah's 28 in India's first innings is also significantly his highest Test score.
  • Joe Root became the fourth captain after Alan Melville and Hansie Cronje (South Africa), Don Bradman (Australia) and Virat Kohli (India) to register a fifty and a century in the same Trent Bridge Test.
  • Root became the first England captain to twice top score in both innings of a Test against India. Previously, Douglas Jardine, Len Hutton and Graham Gooch had performed the feat once.
  • Root also became the sixth captain to top score in both innings of a Test at Trent Bridge.
  • Kohli's first-ball dismissal in the first innings is his fifth such in Test cricket. Three of these occasions have been against England.
  • Rishabh Pant equalled his own record of most dismissals in a Test by an Indian wicketkeeper against England in England (7). Pant had previously performed the feat in 2018, also at Trent Bridge.
